Welcome to Malmö Historical Fencing School’s workshop event Santa’s Workshop! This event will consist of short and intense (40-45 minutes) seminars (much like the ones of Masters of Longsword), with several instructors forming two different tracks, one for longsword and one for sword and buckler. The idea for both these tracks are to offer you a palette of different styles than what you are used to, and to add some new techniques to your repertoire.
The seminars are relevant for everyone with a basic knowledge of the relevant weapon. You can participate the workshops with masks and gloves only, but to get the most out of the seminars, we recommend that you have full sparring equipment.
This event is sponsored by the Swedish HEMA-Federation.
The longsword track
Our longsword instructors will focus one longsword manual each. The seminars aim to provide a style sample from that specific manual. Hopefully this track will spark some further academic interest and give you some new perspectives.
The sword and buckler track
For our sword and buckler track, we have asked our instructors to present a narrow subject on a specific topic. We have invited instructors from different backgrounds and with different fencing styles. Therefore we think this track will offer something new for everyone, no matter if you are new to fencing or a veteran with decades of experience.
The sparring hall
In addition to the tracks mentioned above there will also be a sparring hall available during the entire event. It can be used for sparring, drills, techniques, games and other shenanigans you and the organisers can come up with.
We aim to hold seminars for each track with about one hour’s break in between every seminar. The tracks do not overlap, so if you’d like to participate in both tracks, you can still do so. If you do so, you will however only have about 15 minutes’ break between between each seminar.
On sunday, the Swedish HEMA-Federation will hold a educational traning session for judging, reffing and staffing at a HEMA-competition. We hope that as many people as possible will participate at this session. For more information about this event in particular please check out the facebook event (in Swedish) as well as the sign up form.
We also plan to organise some sparring games and free sparring. Bring your tinsel, your santa hats and your favorite weapons. We will provide balloons, parrots and the wheel of misfortune. You have been warned.
The doors will be open at 08:00 on both days with the first seminar starting at 09:00 on saturday. We have access to the hall until 20:00 on saturday and to 16:00 on sunday. All of this might be subject to change.
A more detailed schedule will be made available shortly.
Accommodation can unfortunately not be arranged by the event. For those coming from out of town, Scandic Triangeln is a good option, located within a 10 minutes bus trip from the venue.
